How do you define an Adwords Expert? Many people are looking to start or grow an online business, receive an Adwords coupon in the mail, sign up for Adwords, set a budget, and watch the money vaporize. It only takes one or two lessons from Google Adwords mercilessly eating your budget to search for an Adwords Expert; someone who can guide, coach, or train you how to best use Google Adwords or fully manage your account. But what defines an Adwords Expert, since it’s a subjective term?
Here at SearcherMagnet, we consider an Adwords Expert to be an individual with the following criteria:
- An individual Adwords qualification, having passed the individual Adwords Certification Exam
- Having been Adwords Certified, and actively managing campaigns for at least 2 years
- Attached to or working for an Adwords Certified Partner Company as a qualified individual
- Having proficiency and knowledge of all aspects of Adwords, from ad copy creation to bid optimization to campaign settings
- Actively pursuing continuing education in new sources of training outside of Google Adwords, such as industry blogs and third party courses
- Experience managing Adwords campaigns for products or services similar to yours (Experience in your niche)
We believe that an individual with all of the above characteristics can be considered an Google Adwords Expert. Some items on the list may not be as critical as others, your Google Adwords Expert should possess most if not all of these qualities. What happens when you hire a Google Adwords expert that doesn’t have all of these credentials? If they haven’t been certified, this is a major red flag, because it is relatively simple to get individually qualified. If the company is not certified, this can be another red flag, as the certification is harder to get. There are some minimum criteria that need to be met, such as a certain amount of spend they’ve managed in the last 90 days, that may cause you to raise some questions, such as is this company new? Does it not deal with very much volume? These are things you should consider if your Adwords Expert doesn’t work for an Adwords Certified Partner Company.
If they don’t have experience this is another red flag. If they don’t have experience, they won’t be able to follow the path of Google, with its updates and its changes. They might be at a disadvantage when Google changes its algorithm or changes the interface later, causing unexplained performance issues in your campaign. If they don’t have experience your niche, that speaks for itself. Every niche is different with ad copy, presentation, keyword selection, and overall representation of your product. These are the main things to consider when trying to determine if your vendor has the expertise to truly be considered a Google Adwords Expert.
